This small town election has consumed much of my life

So this all started for me in April. I joined the campaign to elect a new mayor, and we ran a damn good campaign! We had lots of support and our candidate would have been the first black mayor in our small Mississippi town run by good ole boys and old money.  This place won’t even let an Applebee’s or Waffle House move in bc they don’t want to attract too many out of towners! 🤦‍♀️ We aren’t “that kind” of city. So a black mayor is a very big ask of our voters. To buck the system and anger the powers that be. Replace an old white man who has done literally nothing with a young black man with fresh ideas. Someone who is actually focused on growth and industry. There’s not even jobs available for half our population, and they must commute 60 miles in either direction to work a decent job. Just like my daughter does, and I used to do when I worked.Election Day comes and within an hour of polls closing, we are notified that we have won ! We did it! We were so happy! But unfortunately that joy that we were riding high on quickly turned to disbelief, confusion, and anger the next day. The city clerk claimed there had been a mistake with the calculations. A third machine was used for the absentee votes, and they were not added into the total the night before. Instead of our candidate leading with 31 votes, he was now behind 31. A total of 146 votes were added to the total, but somehow still resulted in 31 leading votes. This time for the other guy. I’m not going to bore you with the many details surrounding this case. But just know that the city clerk messed up bigly. She didn’t double check those numbers the night before, she pulled all the ballots out of the boxes the next day and had them stacked on her desk. She didn’t send out the applications with the absentee ballots resulting in many people’s ballots being disqualified. The list goes on and on

We were so happy when those results came in that night!
The photo proving that the city clerk had her hands on ballots she was never meant to touch!

The criticism we faced for our protesting was absolutely insane. All we did was sit outside City Hall with signs for 2 hours. There was just 7 of us. And I made a post and a video stating that we want to hold the city clerk accountable and the mayor for any part that he has played. You can see him clearly in the above photo watching the city clerk commit an illegal act!

And people are losing their shit, saying we didn’t accomplish anything with our protest… except we did. The very fact that they are even talking about it is exactly what we wanted. And the city clerk is talking now which is absolutely what I wanted. So thank you for playing right into our hands LOL.

So anyway, this is what most of my life has been centered around lately besides the usual stuff. If you read this or watched my videos, thank you 😄
